There’s more than one way to skin a cat

If you’ve purchased our earwax irrigation kit then you’ll know from our instruction leaflet what to use in the washer bottle. And it’s simple:50 ml of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution or 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. Just fill the rest of the bottle with body temperature water and Bob’s your uncle. And we know hydrogen peroxide is great. It softens the wax nicely so you’re ready to move onto the irrigation procedure. Nevertheless, it can cause irritation and dryness for people with sensitive skin when used on its own or with water. So we’ve made this new solution with a couple of added elements to act as a buffer.

So you can mix it up a bit. I looked at various ways to make a comfortable, safe solution that’s perfect for those with sensitive skin. Either way, it’s an easy earwax removal process. So go with what you desire, but just in case you want to make this solution at home, we’ve got a video for you.

Here are the items you’ll need:

Please note: we aren’t attempting to dig out compacted earwax here. Rather, the cotton swab is absorbing the washer solution in the ear to dry it. It’s being used to clean the outside of the ear and NOT the inside. Actually sticking a cotton swab, or anything inside your ear for that matter, can tear the sensitive ear canal skin or rupture your eardrum.

Is it necessary for easy earwax removal?

The ear canal is lined with a very thin layer of skin, which is incredibly delicate. In some instances, a solution like this will act as a protective barrier during irrigation. Now if you had absolutely no problems with the original solution, keep doing what you’re doing. However, this solution is great because of the jojoba oil as it’s loaded with Vitamin E and Vitamin B. Therefore, I recommend checking out this article on the top 10 benefits of jojoba oil for the skin.

So jojoba oil has anti-inflammatory properties and will reduce redness and dryness. This is especially great when you have ear eczema. People with ear eczema could be more prone to ear infections as well.

Furthermore, the same can be said with glycerine. It’s awesome because it can be used on all skin types, and it helps with moisture retention. Considering some people may find dryness of the ears after irrigation, it makes sense to use this. It keeps the ear canal lubricated because glycerine acts as an emollient and restores the skins water balance.
